PCOS

PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common hormonal disorders affecting women of reproductive age. It occurs when the ovaries produce an abnormal amount of androgens (male hormones) that are usually present in small amounts in women. This condition often leads to the development of multiple small cysts (fluid-filled sacs) on the ovaries, though not all women with PCOS develop cysts.
PCOS affects a woman’s menstrual cycle, fertility, hormones, appearance, and long-term health. It is also linked to insulin resistance, which can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, and heart disease. Early diagnosis and proper management can help reduce complications and improve quality of life.
